Mascara’s are a must-have in every person’s make-up bag! However, finding a good one can be a challenging task. As someone with relatively thin lashes, I was very ecstatic when I heard about the existence of a mascara that claims to be ‘better than sex.’ This is why I have decided to check out one of the more popular mascaras – the famous Better Than Sex mascara by Too Faced!

Better Than Sex mascara is one of the most famous make-up products in the entire world. It’s cute, pink packaging is well-known in the beauty industry, and there are many rip-offs everywhere.
This mascara is said to give an intense volume, making your eyelashes as thick as possible. It only comes in black color, but the blackest of black lashes are its trademark. A curvy female body inspires the brush’s shape, and it comes with extra stiff bristles that separate each lash. Allegedly, only one coat is enough to make your lashes perfectly defined. Two coats will give you a dramatic look, while three coats complete a sexy make-up for a night out.
Better Than Sex mascara should be smudge-proof and long-lasting. It is said that the only way to get more intense lashes would be to glue fake ones on.
As proof of its quality, this mascara won the Allure Readers’ Choice Award in 2019.
What Is the Product Like?
Of course, the first thing anyone notices is the packaging. The pink color isn’t really my thing. However, I have to say that I actually really like this shade. Not like packaging is any important, of course, but it adds to the overall experience.
The plush brush is hourglass-shaped, which is quite unusual for any mascara that claims to be high-end. Plush brushes are typically designed for people who already have thick lashes, so they usually don’t do much for me. However, I have to say this product really surprised me in a good way.
After just one application, I have already noticed a huge difference in the way my eyelashes look. Despite the plush brush, if you wiggle the end of it, you can add more volume to the base of your lashes. The formula is a bit dry, but this is a good thing for anyone with thin lashes, as this prevents the hair from sticking together. Also, the formulation builds very quickly, and the results are visible almost instantly. Two coats are more than enough for a pretty, dramatic look. The entire application of both layers took me around two minutes, which is faster than with most other similar products.
As the formula is quite dry, I believe the product can really be called ‘smudge-proof.’ However, this isn’t without issues. If you’re someone that doesn’t touch their eyes very often, this mascara can probably last for an entire day. The same goes if you use mascara primer. The product is so dry that it can become flaky on the touch. In other words, if you rub your eyes a bit more than most people, the mascara will likely disintegrate rather quickly. Of course, this can be a good thing, as removing this product is a piece of cake! As I don’t want to risk losing the lashes I have, this is really important for me. To remove some mascaras, you have to literally scrub it off, which can result in losing more than a few hairs. This isn’t the case with Better Than Sex mascara, as it’s rather gentle on the lashes.
Despite a few of its flaws, this product does make a massive difference in the way your lashes look, even if they’re thin naturally. You won’t end with the notorious ‘spider-leg’ lashes that many other, way more expensive mascaras, give you. It’s definitely more than I expected from $23 mascara, and it’s easy to see what it has a cult-like following.

Better Than Sex mascara has a pretty safe ingredient list. It contains Synthetic Beeswax, which is an animal-friendly version of natural beeswax. Other than this, some of the main ingredients on the list are water, paraffin, glyceryl stearate, and rice bran wax.
Is It Vegan And Cruelty-Free?
Too Faced is a cruelty-free brand that is available at stores such as Ulta and Sephora. They aren’t a vegan brand, but offer many vegan options – and Better Than Sex mascara is one of them! It has a 100% vegan formulation, which makes it completely animal-friendly.

The packaging is really pretty, and girly in a good way. The shape is pretty standard, but the relief lettering and the color makes it easily distinguishable.

The more layers you add, the better the volume output is. However, there really isn’t any need to go overboard, as you don’t want your lashes to get clumpy.
Conclusion
All in all, I am very positively surprised by this mascara! Most well-known mascaras give you a natural look, or if they are a bit on the dramatic side, they come with the hideous ‘spider lash’ effect if you have thin lashes. However, Better Than Sex mascara truly gives you everything that it’s advertised for! With it, your lashes will be the blackest shade of black, and two layers are more than enough for a fashionable night out. It doesn’t smudge, even on the bottom lashes, which is excellent, especially as it isn’t officially waterproof.
The most significant downsides of this product go hand in hand with its good sides, unfortunately. The dry formulation, which makes it smudge-proof, also makes it a bit flakey. If you’re someone that touches their eyes frequently, you’ll notice it’s not really long-lasting. However, for a price range the product is in, this is way more than I expected.
