The Shape Tape Concealer by Tarte is said to be one of the best concealers out there, no matter your skin shade or type. You can use it as a highlighter and contour, as well, which is why it’s considered a 3-in-1 product. It offers full coverage; it’s waterproof and long-lasting. In fact, it’s said to last for up to 16 hours!
At the moment of writing this review, the concealer comes in 30 various shades. This should make it great for almost any skin tone, no matter how you intended to use it.
What Is the Product Like?
As this concealer is high-coverage, you’d only be needing a small amount to cover your entire under-eyes. Applying too much is unnecessary, and it can make the product look cakey, and your face will look unnatural. However, this is good for you as the bottle can last for a while if you use just the right amount. Just make sure to check the product’s shelf-life, as you don’t want to end up throwing it away!
This product is also great for contouring and highlighting. Sure, you’ll have to purchase two more bottles of it, and it isn’t the cheapest – on Tarte’s website and Amazon, you can buy it for $27. Suppose you find out its texture works for you. In that case, it’s better to invest in a product that you know will look good on your skin rather than waste money on testing other products. Also, when you think about how long the product lasts, the price isn’t bad at all.
With it, your skin will look smooth and picture-perfect. It won’t crease – unless you have used too much. If products tend to crease on you, I suggest using a primer beforehand. Despite its high coverage levels, it’s lightweight and creamy – a winning combination no matter the skin type! It’s worth noting that my skin is a bit on the drier side, so perhaps you should set it with powder if you have an oily face. The formulation is hydrating, as well, which made my skin feel good even after taking it off. Another bonus is the good smell this product has.
I can’t guarantee on the 16-hour lasting period. However, I can say it stayed on my face for an entire day, without creasing or becoming too oily. Again, I have used the smallest amount of it, as it goes a long way. If you use too much of it, I can see it becoming shiny and oily.
It’s worth mentioning that it’s recommended you apply primer on your face before putting anything on your skin. Foundation should be used under concealer, as well. This is the best way to ensure you know how much product you need and where. I prefer applying the concealer with my finger for the best texture, then blending everything out with a sponge. As this product is very creamy, though, the application process won’t matter that much. Everything is extremely easy to blend; just make sure you pick the right shade for you. For best results, select a concealer shade that is close to your foundation color. Choosing lighter colors for concealers can make your skin look older than you’d like. Keep the brighter shades for highlighting, not for concealing!
When it comes to shades, Tarte really supports the diversity of its products. With 30 different shades, it’s really hard not to find the right one for you, no matter how pale or tanned you are.
Ingredients
If we look at the ingredient list that can be found on Tarte’s website, there is nothing that’s concerning in the ingredient list. However, it’s stated that they infused 43% of concealer with ‘Tape Technology.’ After some googling, it turns out that this technology creates a ‘veil of silk’ that allows great texture and covers up wrinkles and any fine lines you may have. No complaints here on my part.
Also, a bit unusual, the product contains shea butter, licorice root, and mango seed butter. Shea butter has anti-aging properties, and it’s typically used in anti-aging products. Still, it can’t be found in concealers as commonly. It also makes the product easy to blend and smooth. Licorice root helps you with skin discolorations and nourishes sensitive skin types. This makes it perfect for the under-eye area. Mango seed butter is a great moisturizer, which makes my dry skin look really fresh and healthy.
All in all, a nice and unique combination of ingredients.
